This year, we signed up for our first CSA from King Hill’s Farm.

The deliveries start the first week in June, so in the meanwhile, we’re still enjoying the bounty we collect at the  farmer’s market each week. When I shop at the market, I usually don’t have great big plans for what to buy. Our technique is to first purchase a coffee and pastry, then fill up the backpack with whatever catches our eye. When we get home, that’s when I start trying to figure out what I’m going to do with each of the ingredients.

I’m going to start sharing our purchases, with the hope that you guys will throw out ideas of interesting ways to use the ingredients. Here’s what we picked up this week:

Farmer's Market & CSA Bounty Series {Week 1} | Things I Made Today Starting from top and moving clockwise:

  • The dried red cherry chili peppers will spice up some Asian dishes for the next couple weeks.
  • The wild morel mushrooms should be used for something special, especially considering their $11/quarter pound price tag. I’m open to suggestions.
  • The aged cheddar cheese from Bleu Mont Dairy will undoubtedly be eaten as a snack or made into grilled cheese sandwiches with some left over nettle pesto.
  • The spinach may be wilted down with some garlic and red pepper flakes or perhaps tossed into a salad. Or maybe I need to learn to do something new with spinach, any ideas?
  • The rhubarb tells me it wants to be made into ice cream, I’m thinking of trying this Martha Stewart recipe.
  • This purple asparagus is destined for a salad. It’s so lovely that it doesn’t need to be cooked at all. Just eaten raw.
  • And then we bought a 1/2 of a duck. Although duck is one of my favorite things to eat at restaurants, this will be my first attempt at cooking. What’s your favorite duck recipe?

What’s on your menu this week?
