this was supposed to be a post about a really good venison recipe. but…the recipe ended up being absolutely mediocre, so i scrapped it.

instead, i’ll talk about the side i made with said venison because that was memorable, and, i’ll introduce you to my friend ralph. first the ginger garlic green beans. here they are:

now on to more interesting things. here’s ralph:

ralph came into our family just a couple weeks ago, when i visited moches farm (same place i bought the delicious honey lemon jelly i talked about). ralph was just hanging there on the wall, amongst other much larger and more impressive objects, until jason’s aunt therese pointed him out to me.

as soon as i saw him, i knew i had to have him. first of all, he’s tiny, and makes me feel like a giant, which is basically my mission in life.

second of all, he has big dumb eyes that look in different directions and evokes the phrase “a face only a mother could love.” i am his mother.

i don’t know why i fell so deeply in love with ralph, but i did. so much so that i managed to convince jason to let me mount ralph on our living room wall, next to his real deer antlers, that he would like to point out were not a craft project but actual hard work.

i literally giggle every time i see ralph. he is my favorite. but you can’t eat ralph, so instead, try this recipe. it’s a good quick one. you’re welcome.
